- STAFF REPORT

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the woman shot by law enforcement officials after a high-speed chase Wednesday in Dalton, Georgia, as Clinique Jackson, 33, who remained hospitalized Friday in critical condition, according to a news release.

The male suspect in the chase was identified Thursday as 56-year-old Parrish Smaey, of Jonesboro, Georgia. He was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released into custody.

Smaey now faces charges in Whitfield County, including driving under the influence, fleeing police and possession of a stolen vehicle. He also faces charges in Cleveland, Tennessee, police spokeswoman Sgt. Evie West said, including shoplifting, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Jackson will be charged with shoplifting and aggravated assault, West said.

Wednesday’s incident started just after 5 p.m. in Cleveland, Tennessee, when Smaey and Jackson reportedly shoplifted $600-$700 worth of merchandise from the Kohl’s department store on Frontage Road. The two led multiple agencies on a chase south on Interstate 75 through Hamilton County and eventually into Catoosa and Whitfield counties in Georgia.

Smalley surrendered after officers stopped the vehicle, but Jackson fled again in the vehicle. She eventually was stopped and got out of the vehicle with two handguns. Multiple officers from Hamilton County and the Tunnel Hill Police Department then fired at Jackson, injuring her.
