THE ‘RATS’ ABANDON THE TRUMP SHIP
Whoops. Poor Donald Trump. Another “rat” has “flipped.” Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg was granted immunity for providing information to federal prosecutors about Michael Cohen’s hush-money payments to two women during the 2016 election.
Earlier this week, Cohen, Trump’s longtime attorney and “fixer,” pleaded guilty and, under oath, testified that he violated campaign finance laws at the direction of then-candidate Donald Trump in order to pay the hush money. On Thursday, we learned Trump’s longtime friend David Pecker, publisher of the National Enquirer, also was granted immunity to tell about his and Cohen and Trump’s arrangement for the tabloid to buy and then squirrel away in a safe the stories of women who said they had affairs with Trump and wanted to tell just before the election.
Long before that, of course, it was Trump’s national security adviser, Michael Flynn, along with two campaign aides, George Papadopoulos and Rick Gates. All pleaded guilty and have been talking to federal investigators and prosecutors.
But Weisselberg, Trump’s financial gatekeeper since the 1970s, is quite the catch. He was given control of Trump’s financial assets and business interests, along with Trump’s two adult sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., after Trump became president. Weisselberg also served as treasurer of the embattled charity, The Donald J. Trump Foundation, which the New York State Attorney General has sued for allegations involving “extensive and persistent violations of state and federal law.”
Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis, has given a series of cable news interviews intimating that Cohen has valuable and damaging information for special counsel Bob Mueller, including a claim that Trump had foreknowledge of Russia’s hacking of Clinton’s e-mails.
And if Cohen knows stuff, just imagine what Weisselberg knows.
