Riley, Riddle help Lamb to milestone
MACON, Ga. — Former Calhoun High School standout Kaelan Riley threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score, and Tyray Devezin ran for two touchdowns as Mercer beat Jacksonville 45-3 Saturday night for coach Bobby Lamb’s 100th career win.
McCallie School graduate Robert Riddle’s 3-yard run capped the Bears’ opening drive, and Devezin’s 5-yarder made it 31-0 at halftime after Mercer’s defense forced four Jacksonville punts and recovered a fumble while holding the Dolphins to 87 yards in the first half.
Tee Mitchell scored on a 14-yard run and gained 118 yards on 12 carries to become the third player in Mercer (1-1) history with 2,000 career rushing yards.
Riley was 8-of-10 passing for 46 yards and hit Stephen Houzah on a 5-yard touchdown pass. Javier Arce-Ramirez made a 49-yard field goal with 1:30 to play for Jacksonville (1-1).

ELON, N.C. — Greg Ligg picked up a fumble 53 seconds into the game and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown, sparking Elon to victory in its home opener.
Sophomore quarterback Davis Cheek completed 12 of 15 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. Five players scored touchdowns on offense for the Phoenix (1-1), and Kortez Weeks made seven catches for 114 yards.
Elon (1-1) was ranked 15th and Furman 21st in the FCS coaches poll.
JeMar Lincoln got the Paladins (0-2) on the board with a 7-yard run to cap an 11-play drive late in the game.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Joe Newman threw for two touchdowns, jump-starting Wofford’s prolific offense against Virginia Military Institute.
The Terriers (2-0, 2-0 Southern Conference) piled up 661 yards of offense, including 450 on the ground, and had five players rush for a touchdown.
Wofford scored on all six of its first-half possessions, with five of the scoring plays going for 25, 42, 32, 21 and 10 yards. Two of the drives covered 92 yards, another went 75 and a fourth was 74 yards. In the second half, Jimmy Weirick had a 63-yard rushing touchdown and Dimitri Redwood returned an interception 45 yards for a score.
Reece Udinski and Austin Coulling had touchdown passes for VMI (0-2, 0-1), which finished with 314 yards.
