BUCKEYES TAKE MAJOR STEP UP IN COMPETITION, FACE TCU IN ARLINGTON
KEYS FOR OHIO STATE
Haskins’ arm: OSU quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. has extinguished any doubts about his taking command of the Buckeyes’ offense. In his first two games as a starter, the thirdyear sophomore has completed 42 of 53 passes (79.2 percent) for 546 yards with nine touchdowns and one interception.
Build an early lead: In the first half of the Buckeyes’ first two games, they have outscored their opponents to the tune of 77-14. Ohio State likely will have a harder time jumping out in front against a more competitive TCU defense. But if Haskins and company can gain an early lead on the road, it could force the Horned Frogs into a more onedimensional offensive attack, which works to OSU’s favor.
KEYS FOR TCU
Slow the dynamic duo: Running backs Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins were quiet against Rutgers (a combined 104 yards) while alternating series and were barely needed in the second half, but they will both see significant snaps against TCU. The Frogs’ defense will be more athletic than anything OSU has faced yet, but controlling Weber and Dobbins may prove a tough task. A better start for Robinson: The Horned Frogs turned it on in the second half to beat SMU 42-12 last week, so it’s possible TCU might have been looking past the Mustangs. Quarterback Shawn Robinson had a sluggish start and finished 16 of 29 for 151 yards with one TD and one interception.
PREDICTION
Ohio State 45, TCU 24: The Buckeyes expect their first test in their final game before Urban Meyer returns from suspension. Ohio State’s offense has scored at will against two lesser opponents, but TCU’s defense poses a stiffer challenge. The Horned Frogs will need to stay in the game early to have a shot at pulling an upset.
