Sher­iff: Buried body found dur­ing search for miss­ing per­son

A north­east Alabama sher­iff says a buried body has been found amid a search for a miss­ing per­son.

Jack­son County Sher­iff Chuck Phillips said in a Satur­day news re­lease that in­ves­ti­ga­tors found the body in a hole in the woods Fri­day. They were search­ing a res­i­dence and two cam­pers in Woodville, about 25 miles east of Huntsville.

Phillips said in­ves­ti­ga­tors hadn’t pos­i­tively iden­ti­fied the body be­yond say­ing it be­longed to a white male. The body has been sent for au­topsy by the Alabama De­part­ment of Foren­sic sciences.

The sher­iff said au­thor­i­ties have been look­ing for the un­named per­son since early this week and sus­pect foul play.

Phillips said in­ves­ti­ga­tors have iden­ti­fied sus­pects and an­tic­i­pate charg­ing them with crimes soon.
