Sheriff: Buried body found during search for missing person
A northeast Alabama sheriff says a buried body has been found amid a search for a missing person.
Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips said in a Saturday news release that investigators found the body in a hole in the woods Friday. They were searching a residence and two campers in Woodville, about 25 miles east of Huntsville.
Phillips said investigators hadn’t positively identified the body beyond saying it belonged to a white male. The body has been sent for autopsy by the Alabama Department of Forensic sciences.
The sheriff said authorities have been looking for the unnamed person since early this week and suspect foul play.
Phillips said investigators have identified suspects and anticipate charging them with crimes soon.
