Fire­fight­ers con­tain build­ing fire

A roof be­ing in­stalled at a water dis­tri­bu­tion prod­ucts com­pany in Chat­tanooga caught fire Satur­day af­ter­noon.

The large com­mer­cial fire be­gan shortly be­fore 3 p.m. and quickly spread across the roofing ma­te­rial at Mueller Com­pany near Am­ni­cola High­way.

Work­ers in­side the build­ing were safely evac­u­ated, de­spite early con­cerns some were trapped on the roof, ac­cord­ing to Chat­tanooga Fire Depart­ment spokesman Bruce Gar­ner. Em­ploy­ees sounded the fire alarm and quickly evac­u­ated to the fa­cil­ity’s park­ing lot, where the com­pany did a head­count to en­sure ev­ery­one had got­ten out safely.

The fire burned for about an hour be­fore be­ing con­trolled by fire­fight­ers.

Of­fi­cials do not know the cause of the fire yet, and there is no es­ti­mate on the cost to re­pair the dam­age.
