Man dies after car strikes pole near I-75 ramp

A man died after his car crashed into a util­ity pole in Ma­ri­etta on Sun­day morn­ing, po­lice said.

The 25-year-old driver, who has not been iden­ti­fied, was trav­el­ing east on Delk Road near the en­trance ramp to I-75 South, the Ma­ri­etta Po­lice Depart­ment said in a state­ment.

About 7:50 a.m., his 2017 Nis­san Sen­tra left the road on the right side and struck a util­ity pole, of­fi­cials said.

It is not known why the car left the road.

The man was taken to Wel­lS­tar Kenne­stone Hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead. He was the only per­son in the car.

The wreck is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion. It led of­fi­cials to block the I-75 on-ramp Sun­day morn­ing, caus­ing de­lays, ac­cord­ing to the WSB 24-hour Traf­fic Cen­ter.
