Lee track men win, women third

The Lee University men’s indoor track and field team won the 22-team Emory Indoor Invitation­al meet Sunday at the Birmingham Crossplex by 28.5 points over second-place Troy, and the Lee women were third behind Troy and Emory. Among Lee’s leaders, Charlee Boxall won the women’s mile and was third in the 800-meter run, Amy Carpenter won the 3000 with Logan Hernandez fourth, Kayla Williams was third in the 60 and Amber Littlejohn was fourth in the 200. Justin Brooks won the men’s 400 and was second in the 200 to his twin Josiah, who also won the triple jump and was second in the 60. They helped the Flames win the 400 relay, and Ben Tabor, Dawson Reed and Caleb Eagleson were second, third and fourth in the 3000.

› Tennessee Wesleyan senior Devonte Fletcher was the Appalachia­n Athletic Conference men’s track athlete of the week for his sixth-place finish at the Vanderbilt Indoor meet with the NAIA’s best time this season in the 400-meter dash. That was 47.64 seconds. He ran a 7.05 60 in the Emory Crossplex Invitation­al. Wesleyan junior Jalicia Neil was the AAC women’s field honoree after setting a program record with high jump of 1.60 meters and finishing third at the Emory Crossplex.

BASKETBALL

› Karli Combs scored 23 points with seven 3-point baskets as the Bryan College women’s basketball team breezed to its 17th consecutiv­e win Monday, 84-55 at home against Columbia College. That made the Lady Lions, ranked 15th in NAIA Division II, 18-1 overall and 16-0 in the AAC. Tesa Johnson scored 11 points and Deandra Luna

had 12 assists and three steals as 12 Bryan players scored. Sarah Cain led them with seven rebounds. Denijah Johnson had 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Koalas (5-11);

Morgan Varn scored 15 points.

› The AAC’s second-place Milligan women lost 73-71 win at Tennessee Wesleyan as Hunter Simpson, Jacobi Lynn and

Hannah Cherry scored 22, 20 and 18 points for the home team. Simpson added seven rebounds and four assists for the Lady Bulldogs (11-7, 9-7). The Lady Buffs are 16-4, 14-2. The Milligan men (15-5, 10-4) administer­ed the eighth consecutiv­e loss for the Bulldogs (8-11, 4-10), 76-72. Ty Patterson had 26 points, nine rebounds and three steals for TWU, and QD Cox scored 16 points. Todd Lansden also had nine rebounds.

› Dalton State ended a tough Southern States Athletic Conference three-game road trip with a 77-72 win Monday at Martin Methodist. Elijah Staley scored 20 points and Randy Bell had 17 plus four assists for the winning Roadrunner­s (11-8, 6-5), while Sean Chislom and Kingston Frazier each scored 10 points. Former Cleveland State player Jordan Olison had 23 points and five assists for Martin Methodist (7-10, 4-7).
