It’s official: Bulls deal for Carmelo Anthony
The Bulls’ acquisition of Carmelo Anthony became official Tuesday as the NBA announced the trade with the Rockets for the 10-time All-Star forward.
The Bulls are sending the draft rights to Serbian forward Tadija Dragicevic to the Rockets for Anthony, the draft rights to guard Jon Diebler and cash considerations.
Anthony, 34, will not play for the Bulls, who will either try to trade his expiring contract for an asset before the Feb. 7 deadline or else waive him. The Bulls will get about $900,000 in cash, while the Rockets will reduce their luxury-tax bill.
Anthony signed with the Rockets last summer but played in only 10 games before being benched and eventually exiled.
Dragicevic, 32, was a 2008 second-round pick by the Jazz. The Bulls acquired his rights in a 2014 trade with the Mavericks. Diebler, 30, was a 2011 second-round pick by the Trail Blazers out of Ohio State who has played his entire pro career in Greece and Turkey.
