Middle school mom arrested, warned to stay off school property

Celestial Chaise Harris, 44, was arrested and her daughter and another child at the school were cited to juvenile court after a fight broke out at Soddy-Daisy Middle School Wednesday morning.

Harris had arrived at the school around 9:55 a.m. to dismiss her student early, but during a class change, her daughter entered a nearby bathroom with another student and began fighting, according to a press release from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Harris and her daughter were found striking another juvenile, who was sitting on the floor of the bathroom while other students witnessed the fight. The school resource officer was alerted to the fight and took all three parties into custody.

Harris was transported to the Hamilton County Jail where she was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct, as well as given a criminal trespass warning to stay off the school property, according to the release. The two female juveniles have been cited for disorderly conduct and are to appear in Juvenile Court.

According to the arrest affidavit, the SRO had spoken with Harris earlier that morning about her concerns that her daughter was being bullied. The SRO was also in the process of speaking with another student about bullying regarding at least one of the juveniles when he was notified of the fight.
