Buddy Gross wins Toho tour­na­ment

Buddy Gross of Chicka­mauga, Ge­or­gia, com­pleted his sec­ond FLW Tour vic­tory Sun­day with a five-bass limit to­tal­ing 23 pounds, 12 ounces out of Lake Toho in cen­tral Florida. That gave him a four-day haul of 85-12 and $102,700. Florid­i­ans John Cox and Dar­rell Davis were sec­ond and third with 81-2 and 78-7, good for $30,600 and $25,000. “I’m ecstatic. It has been an awe­some, awe­some jour­ney,” Gross said in an FLW re­lease. “To beat the com­pe­ti­tion that we have — it’s un­be­liev­able.”

› The Se­wa­nee men won 60-57 but the women lost 69-56 in their SAA bas­ket­ball home games Sun­day against Oglethorpe af­ter los­ing 87-80 to the Berry women and 69-63 to the Berry men Fri­day night. › The 13th-ranked Bryan Col­lege women are go­ing to the NAIA Di­vi­sion II na­tional tour­na­ment for the third year in a row af­ter seal­ing their sec­ond suc­ces­sive AAC reg­u­lar-sea­son ti­tle with a 68-64 win Satur­day at No. 22 Mil­li­gan (22-5, 20-3). The 24th straight win for the Lady Li­ons (25-1, 23-0) in­cluded 19 points from Shayla Ludy, 14 from To’Ne­sha Al­li­son, 11 from De­an­dra Luna and 10 from Am­ber Levi. The Bryan men (13-13, 10-10) lost 81-75, but Keaton Dot­son hit six 3s in scor­ing 21 points, EJ Bush had 17 plus 12 re­bounds and Isa­iah Mc­Clain scored 14.

› Three play­ers scored 20 points as Covenant Col­lege won 87-81 at Pied­mont and clinched its first men’s bas­ket­ball reg­u­lar-sea­son cham­pi­onship since 1964, in this case the USA South’s West Di­vi­sion.
