Darlingside, Tauk, tribute bands at Songbirds

- STAFF REPORT

A diverse lineup is booked at Songbirds in the coming week, beginning with alt-folk quartet Darlingside tonight, April 25.

“Darlingside — I’ve wanted to get them in for a year and a half, but had to wait until their Moon River appearance last fall,” says Mike Dougher, Songbirds entertainment coordinator. “Storytelling with four-part harmonies … I’m in!”

Darlingside’s show is in support of new EP “Look Up & Fly Away” and their acclaimed 2018 album “Extralife.”

“This week is interesting because there are several new acts and a little something for everyone,” Dougher continues.

“I think the highestprofile act is probably Blizzard of Ozzy, a tribute to Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath. They do an elaborate setup with lights, video and stage props, and they sell out every city around us. So I’m glad to finally get them in.”

› In addition to Blizzard of Ozzy, tribute band Jeremy’s Ten will present A Tribute to Pearl Jam on Friday, April 26. The Charlotte, North Carolina, band plays authentic covers of Pearl Jam’s hits across the years.

› LAVNDR releases her “Cereal Killer” album with a party at Songbirds tonight, April 25, at 9 p.m.

“This video release is part of our continued effort to promote and assist local artists to increase their visibility,” says Dougher.

› Second-generation blues man Kenny Neal stops in Songbirds for a show Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m.

“Kenny Neal is one of the most entertaining live blues shows we do,” says Dougher.

Neal was playing bass for Buddy Guy at age 17. His 2016 album “Bloodline” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album and won two 2017 Blues Music Awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album and Best Contemporary Male Blues Artist.

› Tauk and the Get Right Band are playing Sunday, April 28, at 8 p.m. The four-piece rock fusion band is touring in support of “Shapeshifter II: Outbreak,” which offers an exhilarating look at artificial intelligence and its potential to change the world.

› If you didn’t catch Badflower on James Corden last fall, hear them live on Wednesday, May 1. Badflower pulls into Songbirds for an 8 p.m. show with Deal Casino and Fencer opening.

“They have a fresh, new sound for the rock crowd. Again, it’s taken a year of talking to finally get them in,” says Dougher.

Badflower scored a No. 1 with first single “Ghost,” off its debut album, “OK, I’m Sick.” That single’s music video surpassed 9 million views. The band’s second single off that album, “Heroin,” is moving up Billboard’s Hot Rock chart.

Badflower was nominated for iHeart Radio’s Best New Rock Band earlier this year, which was won by lovelytheband.
