Standoff ends with 1 in custody

-

A man is in custody following an eight-and-ahalf-hour SWAT standoff that ended peacefully on Saturday.

Police were called to a home in the 5000 block of Harley Lane at around 8:40 a.m. after a man reported James Waters, 28, had a firearm in the home.

The man said he feared Waters may shoot him because he kept cocking it and pointing it at him. This was after Waters had made threatening remarks the night before police said.

No one else was in the home during the standoff, Times Free Press news partners WRCB News Channel 3 reported.

Police noted that Waters has a criminal history and a tendency to become violent.

Once he surrendered, Waters was taken into custody and charged with aggravated domestic assault, domestic assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

But while on his way to jail, Waters vandalized the police vehicle by pulling an interior panel off. Police charged him with vandalism/malicious mischief because of that police said.

Then while at the jail, he told jailers he had swallowed two 9mm bullets. As a result, he had to be taken to a local hospital.

He was additionally charged with possessing contraband in a penal institution and tampering with evidence.

His total bond was set at $82,000.
