Stolen school bus located on Highway 153; man held

A school bus reported stolen Monday morning from 7126 Garfield Road in Hamilton County was found on Highway 153 later in the afternoon and the driver was taken into custody, a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office states.

Chattanooga Police Department traffic unit Sgt. Michael Ortel stopped the vehicle. The sheriff’s office is investigating the crime, because the bus was stolen from an unincorporated area of the county.

The suspect, identified as Johnny White Jr., is awaiting booking at the Hamilton County Jail.

He is expected to be charged with theft over $10,000.
