Huffine honored

Recent University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a accounting graduate Jake Huffine, the school’s starting 133-pound wrestler in 2018-19, has been named to the Google Cloud Division I academic all-district men’s at- large team, as voted by the Collegiate Sports Informatio­n Directors of America. The at-large label covers fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and men’s volleyball in addition to wrestling, so many students were considered. Huffine had a 4.0 grade point average for his time at UTC and was the male winner of the school’s Dayle May Award for the top GPA for a senior athlete.

› Eric Mann of Summervill­e, Georgia, won the Super Pro drag racing class this past Saturday night at Brainerd Motorsport­s Park in a Chevrolet dragster powered by a modified 454 Chevy engine prepared by Steven Farrow. Mann won with a 4.95-second run on a 4.94 dial. Brandon Jones of Rainsville, Alabama, was second with a 5.38 run on a 5.39 dial. Reigning strip champion Ray Zumstein of Harrison was the No Box victor with a 6.85 on a 6.85 in a 1985 Plymouth Valiant, with James Cooley second with a 7.02 on a 7.02 in a 1985 Ford Mustang. Jesse Long was second in the Sportsman class and won the 24-entry Junior Dragster competitio­n with a 7.91 on a 7.90; Lawson Saine was second with a 7.90 on a 7.91. Hugh Harris had the meet’s low elapsed time, 4.64, and top speed, 145.95 mph.
