Soddy Daisy Smiles offers new membership program

- BY BRANDI DIXON

Having dental insurance shouldn’t determine whether or not patients are able to get the oral care they need. That’s the goal behind the new Healthy Smiles membership program at Soddy Daisy Smiles, created by Drs. Robert and Mandy Shearer.

“Offices that offer these in-office membership plans are different across the board, and that’s the beauty of them,” Dr. Mandy explained. “Membership plans are dental care plans that practices offer directly to their patients.”

She went on to explain that patients who take advantage of the plan pay a monthly or annual subscription directly to their practice for preventive care and receive discounts off other treatments as well.

“It is not an insurance plan, no claims are filed, and no payments are made to any other health care providers,” Dr. Robert noted.

Once the annual fee is paid to the dentist directly, patients are entitled to the dental benefit membership program for 12 consecutive months. There are no pre-existing condition limitations, which is a big bonus, and there are no waiting periods for patients who want to sign up.

“Most patients find the plan pays for itself during the first visit,” Dr. Mandy said.

The plan offers individual and family options and offers savings by making Soddy Daisy Smiles’ high quality service available for a percentage off their regular fees.

The yearly membership plan under the Health Smiles includes:

• 2 healthy dental cleanings

• 2 doctor exams

• All needed x-rays

• Oral cancer screening

• 1 emergency exam per year (if needed)

• 1 fluoride treatment

• 15% off all other dental treatments

“Again, if you’ve lost your dental insurance for whatever reason, we hope this plan will be a great fit for you to help make sure you keep up with your oral health,” Dr. Robert said.

Oral health can very much be a window to your overall health, so there’s every reason to not let your dental checkups and any ailments you may have go by the wayside. Oral infections that can cause tooth decay and gum disease might play a part in other diseases and sickness that impact your body as a whole and it lowers the body’s overall ability to combat other germs and illnesses.

“Most of the time, we can catch problems early on the front end and help you get a plan and routine in place to help get your smile back on track,” Dr. Mandy said, adding that being sure to keep up with brushing and flossing in between your visits is key.

For families with children, it’s also crucial to make sure they stay up on their dental visits, and Health Smiles can cover them as well.

During the early years of childhood, Dr. Robert noted that parents need to keep in mind dental health and hygiene, as a study done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 20 percent of kids between the ages of 2 and 19 have cavities that have not been treated.

“As soon as teeth appear in the mouth, decay can occur,” Dr. Mandy added. “Parents have a key role in helping their children to develop a proper oral hygiene routine in the first years of their life, and should lead and supervise them in tooth-brushing, until motor and mental functions allow the child to perform it alone.”

If your child has not had a dental exam, schedule a well checkup for them as soon as possible and ask about the Healthy Smiles membership plan.
