Scooters, WWTA study on city council agenda

The Chattanooga City Council will have a busy day Tuesday with votes on the proposed scooter moratorium and a study on merging city and county sewer services.

Here’s what you should know about this week’s council meeting:

1. The final vote on the proposed six-month moratorium on dockless electric scooters is set for Tuesday night. The moratorium, sponsored by District 3 Councilman Ken Smith, would temporarily ban scooter companies from coming to Chattanooga after the city failed to pass rules for companies interested in the area this spring. Even if the moratorium passes, Smith said, the council would be able to lift it early if members decided to allow, permanently ban or pass other legislation on the scooters.

2. The council will vote for the first time on a proposed study to assess the possibility of merging the city’s sewer service with the county’s waste water treatment authority. Sponsored by Vice Chairman Chip Henderson, the resolution would prompt a consultant study on the environmental and financial impact of combining city sewer services with the WWTA. The resolution only initiates the study and does not move the city and county any closer to combining the services.

The council will meet at 1:30 p.m. for the strategic planning meeting, 3 p.m. for the agenda meeting and 6 p.m. for the regular voting meeting. All meetings are in the City Council building at 1000 Lindsay St.
