John Schneider, Cody McCarver joining Scott, Todd Smith for benefit concert
The second Smith & Wesley and Friends benefit for the Wes and Shirley Smith Charitable Endowment is Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Northwest Georgia Amphitheatre from 5 to 10 p.m. Smith & Wesley is the North Georgia duo of Scott and Todd Smith.
And the friends joining them are John Schneider — yes, Bo Duke — and Cody McCarver, former member of Confederate Railroad.
In the early 1980s, following the success of “Dukes of Hazzard,” Schneider was signed to Scotti Brother label. His debut album — “Now or Never,” a remake of the Elvis Presley song — reached No. 8 on the Country Billboard charts.
From 1984 to 1987, Schneider released six albums with MCA Nashville, including No. 1 album “A Memory Like You,” and his “Greatest Hits” album.
McCarver has released two country CDs and three Christian CDs since leaving Confederate Railroad. His latest CD, “Rise Up,” and the hit single of the same name established him in the Christian music world.
McCarver has a new CD, “Blessings,” coming out this year. The CD is produced by Lew Card, who also is a co-writer with McCarver on several tracks. McCarver called on Schneider to sing the duet “These Hands” and John Anderson to help sing the classic hymn “The Old Rugged Cross.” So perhaps the audience at Saturday’s benefit will hear “These Hands” from the two performers.
New this year: $125 VIP meet-and-greet- tickets with Schneider, which include autograph and photo, and must be purchased in advance. Advance generaladmission tickets are $20; general-admission tickets at the gate will be $25.
