McKie, Harrold lead Lady Flames to tourney win

Led by medalist Carson McKie and co-runner-up Haverly Harrold, the Lee University women’s golf team repeated as champion of the Battle at Old South tournament this past weekend at Bluffton, South Carolina. In a field of 14 that included three Top 25 opponents, the Lady Flames won by eight strokes with a 36-hole 580. McKie shot 5-under-par 139 (71-68) and Harrold followed at 143, while Emily Felix tied for 10th at 148 and freshman Supuschaya Srichantam­it tied for 22nd at 151.

› The University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a women’s golfers finished 10th out of 15 teams Sunday in the Mason Rudolph Championsh­ips at Franklin, Tennessee. The Mocs’ final-round 297, led by Esme Hamilton’s 2-under 70, lifted them past Southern Conference rival Mercer to 893. Houston closed with a 284 to win at 866, two strokes lower than Clemson and host Vanderbilt. Individual­ly, Hamilton tied for 14th at 218 and teammates Maddy McDanel and Rheagan Hall shot 221 and 226 with finalround 74s. The UTC men begin play today in UAB’s Graeme McDowell Invitation­al.

SOCCER

› The UTC soccer team ended the nonconfere­nce part of its schedule Sunday with a 5-0 home win over Division II member Union University. The Mocs (5-2-2) outshot the visitors 35-3, 14-3 on goal, and had a 12-1 margin in corner kicks, and Osa Iyare, Faith Gober, Chloe Arnold, Emily Szymanski and Maddie Burman scored. Hollie Massey had two assists, including the game’s first at 8:11, and Szymanski, Bailey Gale, Julia Perrusquia and Gober had one each.

› The Sewanee men’s scheduled home game Sunday against MUW was canceled. The Tigers (5-1-1) will host Emory on Wednesday.

› Dalton State College won 5-0 in men’s soccer Saturday at Trinity Baptist in Jacksonvil­le, Florida, and 2-0 over Life in women’s play Sunday in Marietta, Georgia. Both DSC teams had defeated NCAA Division II member Shorter on Wednesday. Sarah Chamale scored in the 20th and 25th minutes in the fourth consecutiv­e win for the Lady Roadrunner­s (4-2), the second goal from an assist by former GPS star Keyle Snyder, and Mattie Dollar made five saves. The Dalton State men outshot Trinity (0-6) 36-4 and created a 17-0 gap in shots on goal. Frank Herrera, Justin Riescher, Zachary Perry, Amin Saheb Ettabaa and Ricardo Merced netted goals.

› The Bryan College teams both improved to 3-0 in Appalachia­n Athletic Conference soccer with wins Saturday at Columbia Internatio­nal, 1-0 for the Lady Lions (4-4 overall) and 4-1 for the Bryan men (3-3-1).

VOLLEYBALL

› Sewanee won 3-1 Sunday in Southern Athletic Associatio­n volleyball at Rhodes, by the set scores of 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23.

Constance Connelly had 48 assists and 18 digs for the Tigers (9-4, 2-1), and Lilly Reilly and Destiny Stewart contribute­d 16 and 15 kills and 15 and 18 digs. Macy Gardella and Lydia Goffi added eight and seven kills. Rhodes is 7-7, 0-3 in SAA play.

› Bryan pulled out two 3-2 volleyball victories Saturday at Kentucky Christian, by 22-25, 21-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-11 in an AAC match against KCU and 25-17, 21-25, 24-26, 25-14, 15-12 over Ohio Christian. That raised the Lady Lions to 11-6, 5-2 in league play.

Gigi Ford had 12 kills and 20 digs against KCU, when Rheagan Kean and Macenzie Krause had 21 and 15 digs, Jaleigh Rogan contribute­d 18 assists and 11 digs and Sidney Pierce set up 15 assists. Emalie Hicks had eight kills, and Rebecca Camacho added seven plus two block solos and four block assists. Against Ohio Christian, Hicks and

Anna Owens each registered 11 kills and Ford and Paige Randolph had nine apiece, while Kean racked up 42 digs, Ford had 17 and Pierce and Rogan had 25 and 17 assists and 14 and 13 digs. Krause added 11 digs, and Pierce served three aces.
