Michael Gene Wagner, 20, of Soddy Daisy, died unexpected­ly on Sunday, August 23, 2020 due to injuries suffered in a car wreck.

He was born July 20, 2000 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Michael, known as “Mikey” or “Soddy Mike” by most of his friends, was a proud 2019 graduate of Soddy Daisy High School. Michael loved sports, playing Little League baseball, football and competitiv­e wrestling. He loved hanging out with his friends, loved his family but was most proud of his younger brother Blake. Michael was pursuing a certificat­ion program in the Automotive Technology at Chattanoog­a State Community College. He was a dedicated

employee at Steve’s Landing throughout high school, often working a second job at a roofing company while attending school.

Michael is survived by his parents Eugene Wagner Jr. (Cheryl Grogan), Staten Island, NY and Kristin Ainslie (Victor) Moon, Chattanoog­a; his brother, Blake Sanford Moon, Chattanoog­a; his grandparen­ts, Dwight and Cheryl Ainslie, Winter Park, FL; Timothy and Barbara Davis, Chattanoog­a, TN; Eugene Wagner, Sr., Altamonte Springs, FL. and Yvonne Wagner, Casselberr­y, FL.; his aunts and uncles, Bryan (Natalie) Ainslie, Harrison, TN; Carol (Joe) Maselli, Oveido, FL; Melissa (Phillip) Moser, Ooltewah, TN; Stacey Wagner, Port Washington, WI. and many, loving cousins and extended family.

Michael looked upon his close friends as his brothers and chosen family.

Heartfelt thanks to the many special teachers and coaches at Soddy Daisy High School, Central High School and Chattanoog­a State who encouraged and inspired Michael to work hard, follow his dreams and never give up.

In gratitude especially to teachers Mary Bridges, Cheryl McClendon, Coach Kevin Orr, Trevor Fuller, Coach Cortney Braswell, and many others. We are proud Michael chose to help others in the face of tragedy having signed up to be an organ/tissue donor with Tennessee Donor Services.

Our heartfelt prayers go out to the family of Michael’s friend Jonny Laymon who died in this crash as well.

A private family Celebratio­n of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 29, at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Laura Becker officiatin­g.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to an educationa­l fund for Michael’s brother, Blake Sanford Moon, set up at First Horizon Bank, Chattanoog­a, TN.

Per the current health situation and the mandate of the Hamilton County Mayor, visitors must adhere to all CDC guidelines, including social distancing and the wearing of facial coverings for visitation and services.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, August 28, at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road, Chattanoog­a, TN.
