Eye on unemployment
The Labor Department issues its weekly unemployment claims data today.
The number of people applying for jobless aid remains historically high. Last week, the government said 840,000 new Americans put in for unemployment benefits. It was the 29th straight week above 700,000, a level never seen before the pandemic struck the economy in March. Economists project that 832,500 people applied for unemployment aid last week.
