Pilgrim’s announced plans to invest $600,000 to support Chattanooga’s future. Pilgrim’s has been working with local leaders to identify where the funds can best help meet immediate and longer-term community needs in three key areas: food insecurity, community infrastructure and well-being, and COVID-19 emergency response and relief efforts.

“As proud members of the Chattanooga community, we are grateful for the opportunity to support our neighbors through the Hometown Strong initiative,” James Bradford, Pilgrim’s Chattanooga complex manager, said.

A $372,000 contribution is being made to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen to support a remodel of the facility to include expanding the kitchen and adding new, larger appliances that will increase the number of meals the organization can provide to the community by 40%.

“We are grateful to Pilgrim’s for this opportunity to partner in service to our hungry, homeless and vulnerable neighbors throughout the community,” said Jens Christensen, chief executive officer, Chattanooga Community Kitchen.

Another $190,000 is being invested in Battle Academy to install an education pavilion and add swings to the playground. This project will provide the school with its only outdoor educational space. The remaining budget will be allocated by the end of the year.

“This tremendous gift by the Pilgrim’s Hometown Strong initiative will enhance the educational opportunities for children at Battle Academy for years to come,” said Jesse Goins, principal, Battle Academy.
