Racist churches portrayal dismaying

-

I am a 76-year-old pastor and have a lot of dear preacher/pastor friends in the Chattanooga area. I have been reading with interest and somewhat disappointment your articles with regard to how racist the Chattanooga churches are, especially the Baptists. I seriously doubt that you can find even one church in Chattanooga where any person, regardless of their color, would not be welcomed … not one.

Furthermore, as for the Southern Baptist Convention practicing “systemic racism,” you and your staff are really off base and wrong! Again, I know of not one SBC that would mistreat or react in a negative manner to any person attending their church worship service; rather, they would be received with open arms.

I realize you are in the business to sell papers; however to use racebaiting news stories in an attempt to divide the religious community is one [topic] I could not remain silent on. I understand that you are writing from a liberal platform, however please don’t forget there are a lot of great people in the Chattanooga area, both Democrats and Republicans, who are getting hurt [when you allow] your politics to usurp your better judgment.
