Eye on unemployment

The Labor Department issues its weekly tally of applications for unemployment benefits today.

Economists expect 360,000 Americans filed for unemployment aid last week. That would mark a new pandemic low. Two weeks ago, the number of people applying for jobless aid rose slightly to 373,000. Weekly applications, which generally track the pace of layoffs, have fallen steadily this year from more than 900,000 at the start of the year.
