Red Wolves win, now in first place

Marky Hernandez found Rafael Mentzingen for the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute, and the Chattanoog­a Red Wolves held on for a 2-1 win over Tormenta FC on Wednesday night at CHI Memorial Stadium in East Ridge.

Juan Galindrez scored the other goal for the Red Wolves (6-1-4), who moved into a three-way tie for first place in the USL League One standings at 22 points with Union Omaha (6-1-4) and Greenville Triumph SC (6-4-2), the top two teams last season. The Red Wolves also avenged last month’s 1-0 loss to Tormenta (5-9-1) in Statesboro, Georgia.

Chattanoog­a travels to take on North Texas SC (4-5-2) at 9 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. The Red Wolves’ next home match is July 24 against Greenville.
