Housing market bellwether
New government data on residential construction should provide insight into the state of the new-home market.
The Commerce Department is expected to report today that builders broke ground on new apartments and single-family homes last month at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.59 million units. That would follow a pace 1.57 million in May as builders delayed projects because of a surge in lumber prices and other supply constraints.
