Concerts, comedy, history lessons are all on the weekend calendar
We’ll start with the weekend’s sold-out shows: If you don’t already have tickets to the Moon River Music Festival at Coolidge Park, you’re out of luck. Likewise, the acts coming to The Caverns in Pelham, Tennessee, Sets by Svdden Death and JJ Grey & Mofro, are sold out.
But the weekend still promises impressive concerts, extra comedy and even history programs to enjoy. Here’s a chronology:
› Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St., introduces Thursday the educational exhibit “Solar @ CDM.” The fully functioning solar panel will serve as a centerpiece for the museum’s education programs and exhibits on renewable energy. › Party at Point Park:
Limited tickets remain for this National Park Partners fundraiser at Point Park, 110 Point Park Road, Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. › Nurse Blake: The PTO Comedy Tour, featuring registered nurse and internet sensation Blake Lynch, stops at 8 p.m. Thursday at Walker Theatre, 399 McCallie Ave. (inside Memorial Auditorium). › The Comedy Catch,
29 Station St., features three acts this weekend. Wet Bar Comedy, starring Sweet Baby Kita and Hilliary Begley, is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday; tickets are $15. Matt “Casio Kid” Mitchell has shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. Saturday; tickets $17 and $19. › Virtual history: The Tennessee State Library & Archives in Nashville begins a Lunchtime Speaker Series from noon to 1 p.m. CDT Friday with a look back at Tennessee’s centennial celebration of
statehood in 1896 and the Tennessee Exposition of 1897. Historian David E. Ewing will lead the first installment, which may be attended in person or virtually. Other events will examine American Indian life and culture in early Tennessee (Nov. 5), how Tennessee earned its “Volunteer State” nickname (Feb. 11) and how the state’s geology and topography affected where pioneers settled (May 6). The free livestream can be accessed on the library’s Facebook page and Secretary of State Tre Hargett’s YouTube channel.
› Nightfall signs off for the season with psychedelic rock duo Susu headlining Friday at Miller Park, 910 Market St. Chattanooga rockers StereoFeet will open the show at 7 p.m. Lookout Wild Film Festival will show an hour of adventure films after the show, around 9:45 p.m. Motorcycle parking will be in the block of M.L. › Reflection Riding & Arboretum, 400 Garden Road, plans a guided Wildflower Walk in the Lower Meadows, where bearded beggarticks and giant ironweed are blooming, 9-11 a.m. Saturday. › History program:
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present “Finding Freedom in North Georgia: Enslavement and Escape on the Underground Railroad” at 2 p.m. Saturday, detailing a slaveholder who lived within the current boundary of Chickamauga Battlefield. Participants will meet at the Visitor Center, 3370 LaFayette Road in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, then caravan to the Alexander House. Water and portable chairs are recommended. › Black Jacket Symphony returns to Chattanooga on Saturday for two performances of the 1979 Pink Floyd concept album “The Wall.” Shows start at 5 and 9 p.m. The first half of the show will offer a note-by-note reproduction of the album in its entirety. › Sunset Cinema, an outdoor movie series, will feature the 1984 film “The Karate Kid” at sunset Saturday at Miller Park, 910 Market St. Starting at 5 p.m., Capoeira Chattanooga and Move N Groove Kids will present their annual “roda,” a circular performance of martial artists and musicians. › Moccasin Bend Lecture Series, an annual event, kicks off at 7 p.m. Monday with Keith A. Hardison discussing “Character-Driven History: Chattanooga and the Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center.” Hardison, the center’s executive director, will explain why Chattanooga is considered the birthplace of the National Medal of Honor and highlight recipients of the medal in the Civil War Campaign for Chattanooga. › Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center, 2 W. Aquarium Way, debuts a traveling exhibit, “War Comes Home: The Legacy,” on Tuesday. › Chattanooga Lookouts begin a six-game home series against the Mississippi Braves next week at AT&T Field, 201 Power Alley.
