Board member recovers from virus
Hamilton County Board of Education member Rhonda Thurman of Hixson contracted COVID-19 two weeks ago and has recovered, she said Friday.
Thurman told the Times Free Press that the salon where she works has been closed for two weeks to protect customers and disinfect everything before reopening. “You never know where you got it, you never know how long you’re gonna be sick when you get it. People in my family are vaccinated who have gotten it, I work with people who are vaccinated who have gotten it. I don’t know, I have no idea where I got it,” Thurman said.
“When I knew that I had it, I quarantined, and I’ve been in my house for weeks,” she said, “but I’m fine.”
Thurman represents the northern part of Hamilton County, including Soddy-Daisy and Sale Creek, areas in which high percentages of families have taken advantage of the
Hamilton County Schools opt-out option for its requirement that students wear face coverings to stem the spread of COVID-19.
Thurman has been supportive of families being able to make their own choices about whether students wear masks in school, even as some parents and health experts have called for universal mask-wearing.
“Why not just say if you want to wear a mask, wear one. If you do not, don’t,” she said on Facebook last month.
