‘I’ve always been a patriot’
■ Name: Jon Dunning ■ Occupation: Writer, stained-glass artist
■ How your life is different since 9-11: “The events surrounding Sept. 11 probably made me more distrusting and suspicious of our political leadership, particularly things such as the ‘shadow government’ we had never heard of before. I’ve always been a patriot. In my case, it (the national surge of patriotism) is like, people are finally coming around to my way of thinking. Since the attacks, I have tried harder to make friends. We need others’ strengths and I’m pleased that my faith has embraced those of the Muslim religion as a whole, not condemning it for the actions of a few.” ■ Fears/hopes for the future: “It makes me fearful for future generations, in that our leadership has failed us in many respects. I get a sense that they are doing some things, such as going after Iraq, to suit their goals.”
