‘We still have a lot to be thankful for’
■ Name: Ruth W. Brinkley ■ Occupation: President and CEO, Memorial Health Care Systems
■ How your life is different
since 9-11: “I have a renewed appreciation for how fragile and precious life is. I’m not a person who does bumper stickers, but I also have a renewed appreciation for our country and for living in a free society. There are still inequities and injustices, and we all complain about inconveniences or indignities that we experience. Before Sept. 11, I might have been one of those complaining, but now I’m reminded that we still have a lot to be thankful for.”
■ Hopes/fears for the future: “My fears and hopes are unchanged. I don’t get frightened when I fly. I know that no terrorist will decide when I die. God will decide. Our sense of security was shaken by the events of Sept. 11. But we can still feel secure that there is a divine plan to be carried out.”
