Tennessee wins SEC’s all-sports title for 2021-22

It’s hard to find much fault with Tennessee’s first full athletic year under athletic director Danny White.

Tennessee on Friday was announced as the winner of the Southeastern Conference’s Overall All-Sports Championship, which is presented by the USA Today Network. The Vols captured their first SEC Men’s AllSports title since the 2007-08 academic year and finished second to Florida in the women’s standings.

Florida finished second to Tennessee overall, with Arkansas, LSU and Alabama rounding out the top five.

“This is such an exciting time to be a Tennessee Vol,” Josiah-Jordan James, who in March helped guide the Vols to their first SEC basketball tournament title since 1979, said through a release. “We’ve got a bunch of different sports teams, but as student-athletes, we really are like one big, united team. We all want to see one another succeed.

“This year, we’ve had a ton of success to celebrate. Tennessee provides us with everything we need to be great — there’s no better place in the world to learn, train, compete and develop as a college athlete.”

Tennessee won league tournament titles in baseball, basketball, soccer and women’s swimming and won baseball’s regular-season championship as well.

This is the second year in which the USA Today Network has presented the SEC All-Sports awards. They were first tabulated through the league office before being presented by the the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group from 1994-95 through 2010-11, and the awards were later given by the Halifax Media Group and GateHouse Media.
