Hortense Lathea Morton Price, formerly of Chattanoog­a Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in Mt. Belvieu, TX. Beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmothe­r, Hortense Lathea Morton Price, life journey began on July 30, 1956. Born the eldest child of Obie T. Morton Sr. and Ruby Gillins Morton, Hortense was a nurturing big sister with a sweet and outgoing spirit. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her.

Hortense confessed her faith in Christ at an early age being baptized into membership at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Chattanoog­a, TN., where she sang in the youth choir and was a member of the youth usher board.

Hortense graduated valedictor­ian of the 1974 class of Riverside High School in Chatd il tanooga, TN. A noted trailblaze­r, she was one of the first two women to graduate from the male-dominated Tennessee State University Mechanical Engineerin­g Department in 1979 with a BSME degree.

After college, Hortense worked for Conoco Pipeline Company in Atlanta GA. She then transferre­d to Mobil Pipeline in Dallas TX. and ultimately moved to Houston TX where she completed her engineerin­g career in 1987. While in the engineerin­g co-op program at Tennessee State, she met Floyd Ray Price in 1978. In 1987 they were married and later blessed with two beautiful daughters Brittany and Briana Price.

Hortense dedicated 33 years as a Phenomenal Teacher, mentor, and soccer coach within the Port Author Texas Independen­t School District. She served many years as the Math and Science Department Head and was awarded teacher of the year.

Hortense was a Charter Member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc Zeta Beta Chapter of Port Arthur, TX, the unit advancemen­t chair, asst. scoutmaste­r, and a merit badge counselor at h l l il f her local council of Boys Scouts of America.

Hortense is preceded in death by her parents Obie T. Morton Sr. and Ruby Gillins Morton, and her brother Obie T. Morton Jr.

She is survived by her loving spouse Floyd R. Price; two cherished daughters Brittany and Briana Price of Mont Belvieu, TX; three devoted sisters Vanessa K. Morton of Mableton, GA, Lesmer (Gene) Orr of Douglasvil­le, GA. and Ardenna Morton of Chattanoog­a, TN; one beloved brother Hilton T. Morton of Chattanoog­a, TN.; one treasured grandson Aiden T. Price of Beaumont, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:AM with a viewing – 10AM – 11AM at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont, TX.
