December 2022 business openings and expansions in the Chattanooga area
Here’s a look at the business trends for December in the Chattanooga area. Those trends include a new freight brokerage company and affordable housing units under construction.
WHAT OPENED Miller’s Ale House
opened its second Chattanooga-area restaurant in Hixson in early December near Northgate Mall. The restaurant chain opened its first Chattanooga location near Hamilton Place in 2018.
Veritas Logistics, a freight brokerage company, has opened an office on 34th Street in Chattanooga and has 11 employees.
WHAT CLOSED
The Steak ‘n Shake restaurant
at 5118 Hixson Pike closed after operating for more than a quarter century.
Syrup and Eggs,
a breakfast eatery in the downtown boutique hotel The Dwell, closed at the end of December. The eatery first opened in a St. Elmo fire hall in 2017 before relocating to The Dwell.
WHAT’S EXPANDING
Chattanooga law firm
Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel P.C. added two attorneys, Hannah-Claire Boggess and Peter Newman, to serve in the firm’s real estate, litigation and risk management practice areas.
La Paz Chattanooga has added five new team members to meet growing service demands. The organization is the longest-serving nonprofit group that works directly with Hamilton County’s Latino population.
Lodge Cast Iron in South Pittsburg is adding a restaurant, Big Bad Breakfast, to its establishment in addition to the Lodge museum and culinary studio undergoing updates.
StoneLoads, a natural stone online marketplace based in Chattanooga, is partnering with freight technology company Loadsmart to offer instant freight quotes on stone purchases across the country.
As Unum offers new products, the business is adding 100 jobs to its Chattanooga location and more than 200 companywide.
ANNOUNCED DEVELOPMENTS
The restaurant, Big Bad
Breakfast, will open in Northshore in March 2023. The location will be the 17th restaurant opened by founder and chef John Currence.
Construction on a
24-unit apartment complex
is underway in downtown Chattanooga. The units will be at 621 E. M.L. King Blvd., and according to Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise, rents will range from mid-$600 to mid-$900 monthly.
In late December, Venue Church agreed to sell its former property on Lee Highway. If the deal closes as planned, Crosswalk will soon take ownership of the space.
Rise Properties has bought The Views at Signal Mountain, a 124-unit apartment complex, for nearly $17.8 million.
The ChattanoogaHamilton County Regional Planning Commission approved 211 new houses and townhomes for an Ooltewah development at a 55-acre site at Ooltewah-Georgetown and McDade roads.
Aventine Development Service Corp. of Allen, Texas, is proposing to develop a shopping center on Highway 153.
