18 from Chattanooga among Division II all-state honorees
After helping the program claim its first state championship in nearly 50 years, 10 Baylor football players have been named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s all-state team for Division II-AAA.
McCallie, which reached the state semifinals, placed three on the all-state team, while five local players were recognized on the D-II AA team.
Earning spots for Baylor were senior running back Caleb Hampton, who was also a Mr. Football finalist and the BlueCross Bowl MVP, as well as fellow seniors Brycen Sanders and Asher Skyles on the offensive line, tight end Dalton Restelli, defensive lineman Tony Boggs, linebacker John Emendorfer and defensive back Evan Haynie.
Red Raiders junior quarterback Whit Muschamp was joined by receivers Amari Jefferson and Max LeBlanc, both also juniors.
“I’m excited for those guys,” Baylor coach Erik Kimrey said. “They’re clearly deserving of this honor based on how well they played and what they helped us accomplish. We had some really talented players on the team, but the thing I’m most proud of is how they worked together and played with a lot of heart.
“It will certainly be a season we will remember forever.”
McCallie junior defensive lineman Carson Gentle and senior linebacker Etienne Delisle also earned all-state recognition, along with junior quarterback Jay St. Hilaire.
Among the TSWA all-state honorees for D-II AA were four Chattanooga Christian players, including three on offense — athlete Javoris Havis, offensive lineman William Wall and running back Boo Carter — who transferred to Brainerd after the first round of the playoffs — as well as defensive lineman Devoris Havis. They were joined by Silverdale Baptist athlete Brett Rogers.
