Ophelia Morgan Cross

Mrs. Ophelia Lucille Morgan Cross age 95, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mrs. Cross was born in Chattanooga, TN, on May 14, 1927, the daughter of the late John T. Morgan and Celpie Smith Morgan. Her mother died when Ophelia was six months old. She was raised by her grandparents, Pinkney and Nancy Cooper Morgan. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cross was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Daniel Cross, Sr.; sisters, Ruth, Shirley, and Peggy; special sister, Dorothy Trower; and a son-in-law, Harry McKune.

She married Roland Cross on September 24, 1944. They celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to his death in 2015. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were memorable. When visiting she would make sure to cook your favorites. She had a garden and made blackberry jam and apple butter. She was a hard worker.

Survivors include her children, Sandra (Robert) Welch, Phyllis McKune, Roland (Lynda) Cross, and Sherry (Wesley) Green;

grandchildren, Jennifer Gasiorek, Stephen (Claudia) Welch, Meredith (Jeff) Norris, Michael (Cara) Mills, Michelle Cross, Lindsay (Ray) McIntyre, Heather (Brandon Smith) Green, Connor Green; greatgrandchildren, Ryan (Taylor), Morgan (Aaron) Austin, Lauren Trendel, Lindsay, Payton, and Abigail Mills, Hannah Gentry, Emma and Nicholas Gasiorek, Sebastian, and Theodore Welch.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 12:00 P.M., Heritage Chapel. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday 11:00 A.M. until the service hour at Heritage Funeral Home.
