January business openings and closings in Chattanoog­a

Here’s a look at the business trends for January in the Chattanoog­a area. They include two popular businesses closing in the Hixson area and 100 new townhouses planned for the East Brainerd area.

WHAT OPENED

Sierra Stollenwer­k is rebranding and expanding her bakery business with the opening of Reignbow Baking Co. at the Eastgate Town Center in Brainerd.

After working as a certified public accountant for more than 40 years, Mike Costello has opened Costello Capital Management LLC, a brokerage service to help business owners sell their companies.

Julianna Fowler opened Coqui, a Puerto Rican cuisine restaurant in East Ridge. Fowler said her goal is to introduce people to as many Puerto Rican flavors as she can.

In addition to its location in North Shore, AquaTots opened a second studio location on Lee Highway. The business has more than 120 locations across the country offering lessons in child-friendly pools with expert instructor­s.

The former Oddstory Brewing Co. space on M.L. King Boulevard has been converted into The Greenhouse Barrel and

Taproom, for which owners Jay and Bryan Boyd hosted a grand reopening in mid-January.

WHAT CLOSED

Best Buy spokeswoma­n Olivia Bruce announced plans for the company’s Hixson store to shut down.

Harvey’s Pirate DriveIn closed with owner Harvey Allison citing health issues and a declining market for the decision.

Cicis Pizza on Highway 153 in Hixson closed after operating for 26 years in the Northtowne Square shopping center.

CHI Memorial has closed its Convenient CareAtrium office on Gunbarrel Road. The hospital stated in a letter to its users that CHI Memorial will continue to provide care at its facilities in Cleveland, Tennessee, and LaFayette, Georgia.

WHAT’S EXPANDING

TVA proposed a switching station and 27 miles of new power lines to connect with the Apalachia Dam near Murphy, North Carolina, for the extension of power to the southeast.

CBL Properties and Vision Hospitalit­y Group plan to develop a 139-room Element by Westin hotel at Mayfaire Town Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. Both companies are Chattanoog­a-based.

Lee VanTine plans to expand his Apotheca CBD and Hemp Markets with a new storefront in Chattanoog­a at 1906 Gunbarrel Road.

ANNOUNCED DEVELOPMEN­TS

A panel that oversees the planned constructi­on of the new Chattanoog­a Lookouts stadium agreed to the start of soil borings and environmen­tal work on the stadium site.

A planning panel approved a proposal for

300 new apartments and townhouses near the site of the future Chattanoog­a Lookouts stadium.

More than 100 new townhouses and singlefami­ly residences are being planned on a vacant 28-acre tract at East Brainerd and Fuller roads.

GreenTech Homes announced a developmen­t plan to build 240 singlefami­ly detached homes on a large vacant tract at 6909 Hixson Pike.

A project of 48 new apartments is being proposed for a vacant parcel at 5103 Central Ave. in South Chattanoog­a.

Rise Partners has purchased a downtown block bounded by Market, Broad, 10th and 11th streets with plans for future developmen­t.

Planners released

three visions of Broad Street in downtown Chattanoog­a after months of study. The effort is to redesign the seven blocks on Broad from the Tennessee Aquarium to M.L. King Boulevard with wider sidewalks, more outdoor dining and better bike lanes.

Chattanoog­a planners approved a proposal for

46 single-family detached micro-homes in Eastdale.
