Valentine’s Day gets an unofficial kickoff this weekend. The lovethemed events vary from lantern-lit cave tours at Ruby Falls to wild animal observatio­n at the Chattanoog­a Zoo, plus music and theater for traditiona­lists.

The Songbirds Radio Hour: Music Making With Ardie Dean & Charles “Sugar Harp” Burroughs, features two representa­tives of the Music Maker Foundation in Hillsborou­gh, N.C., a nonprofit that helps marginaliz­ed artists share their music. Dean is the house drummer and musical director of the Music Maker Blues Revue. Burroughs is a Music Maker partner known for his “down in the gutter, back alley, storytelli­ng blues,” according to Songbirds’ website. The free program starts at 7 p.m. Thursday. › Barrelhous­e Ballroom, 1501 Long St., has announced that Friday’s concert by Confederat­e Railroad has been postponed, but there’s still plenty of twang in the remaining shows. Leading off is local singer Brandon Davis, who opened for country superstar Tim McGraw on several dates last spring. His show starts at 9 p.m. Thursday with a $15 ticket.
