Stockburger, Ward join SMSS leadership
Signal Mountain Social Services has named Marissa Stockburger as its financial administrator and Deseret Ward as director of development.
The community-based nonprofit, which was established in 1954, serves Signal Mountain residents living in Hamilton County with emergency assistance, free food pantry, needbased scholarships, K-12 tutoring and school supplies, life skills counseling and home repairs. Later this year the organization will launch a program focused on mental health resources.
Stockburger, who moved to Signal Mountain six years ago, has 12 years of accounting experience in wealth management with Merrill Lynch. In her new role at Signal Mountain Social Services, she will oversee financial reporting and handle the day-to-day finance activities for the nonprofit, Treasurer Dawn Carlton said in a statement.
Ward has served on the Signal Mountain Social Services board of directors for more than 20 years, including most recently as communications chairwoman and previously as board president. Ward was an early leader and chairwoman of the Mountain Education Fund, now known as the Mountain Education Foundation; was involved in the development of the Pumpkin Patch and countless community projects since moving to Signal Mountain in 1991.
“As SMSS grows to meet the challenging needs in our community, Deseret and Marissa will be an important part of how we advance SMSS’s legacy with empowering services and compassionate resources for our neighbors in need,” Elizabeth Neal, executive director of Signal Mountain Social Services, said in a statement.
