Ledlum, a unanimous All-Ivy selection, commits to Vols
Tennessee snagged one of the top college basketball players in the transfer portal Wednesday night, receiving a commitment from Harvard guard/ forward Chris Ledlum.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder from Brooklyn averaged 18.8 points and 8.4 rebounds this past season for the Crimson and was a unanimous All-Ivy first-team selection. He picked the Volunteers over Indiana and St. John’s, which is now under the guidance of Rick Pitino.
Ledlum signed with Harvard in 2019 but has only played three seasons due to the Ivy League canceling its 2020-21 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the 2021-22 season, he averaged 16.7 points.
This past season, Ledlum started 26 of 28 games and also averaged 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks per contest.
Ledlum becomes Tennessee’s second
acquisition through the transfer portal after adding USC Upstate guard Jordan Gainey on Tuesday. The 6-4 Gainey, who averaged 15.2 points per game this past season, is the son of Vols assistant coach and former N.C. State point guard Justin Gainey and has two years of eligibility remaining.
The biggest news Tennessee has received this week was Tuesday’s announcement that Santiago Vescovi, who led the 25-11 Vols in scoring this
past season, would return for a second senior year.
Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said Wednesday night during his appearance at the Big Orange Caravan stop in Nashville that two members from this past season’s team, senior guard Josiah-Jordan James and freshman forward Julian Phillips, would go through the NBA process while maintaining their college eligibility.
