The Jimmy Simpson Foundation has appointed Dr. Philip Wexler as respiratory director for Safehaven, its long-term care program for traumatic brain injuries in Rock Spring, Georgia.

Wexler previously served as the director of the pulmonary and respiratory department at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta after working as a physician partner with Berks Schuylkill Respiratory Specialists in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.

A 2002 graduate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Wexler holds licenses in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Texas, according to an announcement from the foundation. He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Wexler is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

“When my mom, Carol, started the Jimmy Simpson Foundation and Safehaven 25 years ago, she set out to create a place where families could have peace of mind that their loved one was receiving the highest quality of care in a place that felt like home,” Vickie Hodge, CEO of Safehaven and the Jimmy Simpson Foundation, said in an announcement of Wexler’s appointment. “Adding Dr. Wexler to our team is going to allow us to take our commitment to care to a whole new level, which we believe is truly going to benefit our residents and their families.”

During the course of his career, Wexler spent several years working at Boston University Medical Center. He has received numerous honors and awards including the Reading Hospital Platinum Quality Award in 2019.
