Alma Boyer
Alma Louise Burnette Boyer, wife, mother, and teacher, age 96, died Monday, July 31, 2023 after living an interesting and varied life centered around her family, friends, and teaching career.
She is survived by three children, Robert (Pat) of Chattanooga, Jenni Fletcher (Marty) of Rocky Face, Georgia, and Benjamin (Felicia) of Signal Mountain, along with grandchildren Lindsay, Abigail, Sara, Benji, and Andi and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Lee Boyer and her parents, Fred T. and Malta O. Burnette.
Alma was born in Hazard, KY, March 17, 1927. After a couple of moves with her family, they settled in Bowling Green, KY, where she met Frank. She held a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Western Kentucky University. DuPont brought Alma, Frank, and their children to Chattanooga in 1965. When Frank left DuPont to teach at the University of Chattanooga in 1967, Alma became the science teacher at the Senter School. Following a number of years there, she taught chemistry and biology at Notre Dame until her retirement. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 am prior to an 11:30 am memorial service at First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Avenue in Chattanooga on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
