Local February business openings and expansions

Here’s a look at the business trends for February in the Chattanoog­a area.

WHAT OPENED

McLemore Resort hotel opened on Lookout Mountain in late February, featuring two full-service restaurant­s, a cafe, spa, 20,000 square feet of event space and six meeting rooms.

WHAT CLOSED

The Long Horn restaurant in the Town and Country Center at 129 N. Market St. shut down in late February after 65 years of operation on Chattanoog­a’s North Shore.

Art Creations will close by March 15 after operating in the Chattanoog­a area for more than a half century. The framing and art supply business once had five shops around the Chattanoog­a area.

Slim & Husky’s pizzaria closed its downtown location on M.L. King Boulevard less than two years after entering the Chattanoog­a market.

Chattanoog­a Cookie Co. closed its doors after two years of operation in North Chattanoog­a.

Walgreens closed its drug store location at 2104 McCallie Ave. after operating on the site for 15 years.

WHAT’S EXPANDING

U-Haul has bought the former Greif Chattanoog­a packaging plant at 1721 Central Ave. and has converted the location into a warehouse for its growing portable storage container business.

Food City has opened a new 49,000-square-foot supermarke­t in Kimball, Tennessee. Announced developmen­ts An agreement to plug a funding gap for a new $115 million stadium for the Chattanoog­a Lookouts received approval in late February from city and Hamilton County leaders.

Officials approved a $79 million apartment project for Chattanoog­a’s Westside. The project will replace some public housing for College Hill Courts residents as well as offer low- to moderate-income and market-rate apartments, according to officials.

The former Chatter Box at 6801 Shallowfor­d Road is being converted into a shaved ice dessert outlet called Pelican’s SnoBalls. There are similar outlets in East Ridge and Cleveland.

A proposed $15 million Food City supermarke­t off Lee Highway received zoning approval from a planning panel.
