Norma Jean Smith, 84, of Cleveland passed away on April 2, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George A. Smith and two sons Terry Laymon and Tim Laymon. The former Norma Phillips was the daughter of the late J.L. and Frances Phillips.

She was born and grew up in Soddy Daisy, TN as the second oldest of nine children. She worked as a sewing machine operator for many years and retired from R. G. Barry Corporatio­n. After retirement she worked part-time for House of Lloyd and Christmas Around the World. She and George traveled in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. They were active members of Hopewell Baptist Church in Cleveland.

She is survived by her son Michael (Beth) Laymon, stepson G.A. (Patty) Smith Jr. and stepdaught­er Cherie (David) Wilson; grandchild­ren include Christy Ridge, Dana Penney, Jeremy Laymon, Derek Laymon, Amanda Laymon, Heather Laymon, David Smith, Victoria Boyko, Kristen Walker, Seth Smith, and Josiah Smith. Survivors also include six siblings: Luther Ray Phillips, Joseph Phillips, Alma Ingle, Geneva Wease, Paulette Shipley, and Karen Phillips as well as 23 great-grandchild­ren and three great-great grandchild­ren.

Visitation and Funeral will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church on Saturday April 6th. Visitation will take place from 11am until 1pm with the funeral to follow at 1pm. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Pastor Travis Rogers will be officiatin­g.
