Spring Gar­den blanks Holy Spirit on home­com­ing

SPRING GAR­DEN – Spring Gar­den se­nior quar­ter­back Ben Ivey com­pleted 5-of-7 pass attempts for 151 yards and two touch­downs, and the Pan­ther de­fense took care of the rest in a 45-0 shutout of non-re­gion foot­ball op­po­nent Holy Spirit on Friday for home­com­ing.

Ivey also ran for 45 yards and another score for the Pan­thers (8-0). Friday’s win also marked the third shutout of the sea­son for Spring Gar­den.

Se­nior full­back Quintin Downey de­liv­ered 89 yards and two touch­downs on just four car­ries. Se­nior tail­back Dakota Lambert caught two passes for 42 yards and a score. He also had a punt re­turn for a touch- down. Ju­nior wide re­ceive r Dy­lan Rogers had an 18- yard touchdown re­cep­tion. Luke Welsh, Lucky Bolen and Colby Slay­ton led the Pan­ther de­fense with six tack­les each. Dal­ton Gil­ley had a sack and Drae­van Bow­man had an in­ter­cep­tion.

Se­nior kicker Kait­lyn Rogers con­nected on 3-of-4 ex­tra points and was se­lected home­com­ing queen.

Spring Gar­den plays at Cedar Bluff next Friday for the Class 1A, Re­gion 6 cham­pi­onship.
