Gov. Ivey signs historic Father’s Day proclamation
On May 31, 2017, Gov. Kay Ivey of Alabama signed a proclamation declaring June 18, 2017, as Father’s Day. Kenneth Paschal, Alabama Family Rights Association and Advisory Committee members were present for the event.
This proclamation is the first of its kind by any Alabama governor acknowledging:
- It is important to give appropriate recognition to past and present fathers for their unique and valuable role in the lives of our children and for providing the foundation for the healthy and social development of our families who are a vital interest and the future of Alabama;
- let us pledge ourselves to making concentrated steps to embrace our fathers and value our children’s need for a father in their daily lives;
The proclamation encourages all Alabamians to recognize the important role fathers play and join together in observing this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
“Data shows that we don’t value fathers enough and it’s harming our kids, families, communities, and state,” said Paschal. “Special thanks to Gov. Ivey for caring about children and families in Alabama. The primary goal of the Alabama Family Rights Association is to educate the public and government officials concerning the importance of equal involvement of both fit parents in a child’s life.”
