Mary Estes had a special surprise on her recent birthday anniversary. Her Florida- based 91- year- young brother Raymond Estes designed, mixed, baked and decorated a grand birthday cake — and then packaged and mailed the cake to arrive in time to help Mary celebrate her special day.

Older brother Raymond has served as a minister for several decades. He is also an expert cook — who always contributes his creative taste treats for church dining events. Many of his friends and neighbors are also frequent recipients of his culinary creations.

Another area resident was surprised with a special birthday salute last week. Yvonne Salmoni thought she was having her usual weekly dinner with friends at a lakeside restaurant. However, when she arrived she was greeted by a group of more than 25 celebrants.

Yvonne was especially pleased that daughters Ann Marie and Lorraine and son Jimmy were able to be present for the big event. Anne Marie and Lorraine dashed from their homes in Acworth, Georgia; Jimmy traveled via plane from his Medina, Ohio, locale.
