Aggies prevail in 7-OT marathon

-

Kellen Mond’s two-point conversion to Kendrick Rogers in the seventh overtime gave No. 22 Texas A&M a 74-72 victory against No. 7 LSU on Saturday in College Station, Texas, in a game that tied the NCAA record for most overtimes in an FBS game.

Mond connected with Quartney Davis on a 17-yard throw to tie it at 72. Greedy Williams was called for pass interference on the first twopoint-conversion attempt, giving the Aggies (8-4, 5-3 SEC) another shot. After a false start by Texas A&M, Mond found Rogers for the conversion to end it.

Joe Burrow had a 10-yard touchdown run to put LSU (9-3, 5-3) up 72-66 in the seventh OT, but his two-point conversion throw failed.

Mond threw for 287 yards, six touchdowns and three twopoint conversions and ran for one more touchdown as Texas A&M snapped a seven-game skid against LSU and got its first win over the Tigers since 1995.

A&M forced overtime when Mond found Davis for a 19-yard touchdown pass as time expired to tie the game at 31.

Alabama 52, Auburn 21

Tua Tagovailoa threw five touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the No. 1 Crimson Tide to a 52-21 victory over rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Up 17-14 at halftime, Alabama (12-0, 8-0 SEC) pulled away on Tagovailoa’s touchdown passes to Jerry Jeudy (46 yards), Josh Jacobs (33), DeVonta Smith (40) and Henry Ruggs (22).

Tagovailoa (25-for-32, 324 yards) is the first Alabama player to have a hand in six touchdowns in one game and matched Gary Hollingsworth (1989 vs. Ole Miss) for the school record with the five scoring passes.

He’s the favorite for the Heisman Trophy after compiling these impressive numbers: 189-for-269 (70.26 completion percentage), 3,189 yards, 36 touchdowns and two interceptions. He has taken only 14 snaps in the fourth quarter.

Auburn fell to 7-5, 3-5.

Trevor Lawrence threw for a career-high 393 yards and Adam Choice rushed for three touchdowns to lift the host No. 2 Tigers to their fifth consecutive victory.

The Tigers reached 12-0 for the second time in four seasons and for the third time in their history.

Travis Etienne ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns to give Clemson 41 rushing touchdowns, a single-season record for the program.

Quarterback Jake Bentley had a huge game for the Gamecocks (6-5), throwing for 510 yards and five touchdowns. The teams combined for 1,344 yards — 744 by Clemson and 600 by South Carolina.

Georgia 45, Georgia Tech 21

Jake Fromm threw four touchdown passes and D’Andre Swift ran for 105 yards as the No. 5 Bulldogs (11-1) rolled before their date against Alabama in the SEC championship game next Saturday in Atlanta.

Georgia held a 343-66 edge in total yards, piling up 18 first downs to only four by Georgia Tech (7-5).

Florida 41, Florida State 14

Feleipe Franks threw three touchdown passes to lead the No. 11 Gators (9-3), who rolled up 278 rushing yards. The Seminoles (5-7) won’t go to a bowl for the first time since the 1981 season (36 consecutive years) and it was their first losing season since 1976, Bobby Bowden’s first season as coach.
