FCA Belvidere As­sem­bly Plant Belvidere

The largest em­ployer in the Rock­ford area, 5,430 peo­ple work at this plant that turns out 1,200 Chrysler ve­hi­cles a day.

Navarro Ca­noe Co. Rock Is­land

In the 1970s, Cal­i­for­nian Ver­non Pew du­pli­cated his grand­fa­ther’s de­sign of mak­ing ca­noes that in­te­grated wood and fiber­glass to cre­ate a sturdy but light­weight ves­sel. Bruce and Sue Peter­son pur­chased the com­pany in 2011 and moved it to a few blocks from the Mis­sis­sippi River in down­town Rock Is­land.
