Illinois fights off UNLV to put end to three-game skid

Andres Feliz scored 19 points and Kipper Nichols 12, and Illinois built a 14-point lead before holding on to edge UNLV 77-74 on Saturday in Champaign.

The Illini (3-7) shot 47 percent from the field and held the Runnin’ Rebels (4-4) to 34 percent on their way to breaking a threegame losing streak.

‘‘This is one of those games where you put it in the left-hand column and move the hell on,’’ Illinois coach Brad Underwood said. ‘‘That’s the first time this year we’ve had to protect a lead like that going down to the wire. The other two wins were blowouts.’’

Joel Ntambwe had 18 points and Cheikh Mbacke Diong 13 points and 13 rebounds for UNLV.

Maryland 55, Loyola 41

Anthony Cowan scored 17 points, and the No. 23 Terrapins (8-2) held the Ramblers (5-5) to 32.7 percent shooting on their way to an easy victory in Baltimore.

Cameron Krutwig was the only player in double figures with 12 points for Loyola, which committed a season-high 19 turnovers on its way to losing for the fourth time in its last five games.

‘‘We just had way too many bad possession­s,’’ Ramblers coach Porter Moser said. ‘‘You’re going to have bad possession­s, but not this many.’’

Colorado 84, UIC 72

Tyler Bey scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and the Buffaloes (7-1) used a 25-6 scoring edge from the free-throw line to defeat the Flames (4-6) in Boulder, Colorado.

Jordan Blount scored 22 points and Marcus Ottey 20 for UIC, which shot 56.6 percent from the field but committed 24 turnovers.

UCLA 65, Notre Dame 62

Kris Wilkes made a tiebreakin­g threepoint­er with 0.1 seconds left to lift the Bruins (7-2) past the Irish (6-3) in Los Angeles. Rex Pflueger scored 14 points to lead Notre Dame, which overcame a 14-point deficit but didn’t score in the last 3:45.

Marquette 74, Wisconsin 69 (OT)

Markus Howard scored 27 points to carry the Golden Eagles (8-2) to an upset of the No. 12 Badgers (8-2) in Milwaukee. Ethan Happ had 34 points on 16-for-21 shooting and 11 rebounds for Wisconsin.

Indiana 68, Louisville 67

Romeo Langford scored 21 points, including two clinching free throws with 2.2 seconds left, to fuel the Hoosiers (8-2) past the Cardinals (6-3) in Bloomingto­n, Indiana.

Butler 95, Northern Illinois 68

Sean McDermott made seven three-pointers on his way to 23 points, and the Bulldogs (7-2) trounced the Huskies (5-4) in Indianapol­is. Eugene German led NIU with 20 points.
