Ram­blers hold off Red­birds

Mar­ques Townes scored 21 points and Loy­ola held off Illi­nois State 67-64 on Sat­ur­day at Gen­tile Arena, de­spite go­ing the fi­nal six min­utes with­out a field goal.

The Ram­blers (10-7, 3-1 Mis­souri Val­ley) made up for the 0-for-6 drought by go­ing 6-for-6 from the line in the last two min­utes.

Matt Chas­tain’s dunk tied the game at 61 with 3:37 re­main­ing, but the Red­birds (9-8, 2-2) went score­less un­til Zach Copeland’s three drew them within 65-64 with 15 sec­onds left. Clay­ton Custer made two free throws and a few sec­onds later grabbed a re­bound when Copeland missed a three to seal the victory.

UIC 73, Cleve­land State 56

Tarkus Fer­gu­son scored 18 points with six three-point­ers, grabbed seven re­bounds and dished out six as­sists as the Flames (99, 3-2 Hori­zon League) bounced the Vik­ings (5-14, 0-6) at Credit Union 1 Arena. UIC tied a school record with 17 threes in 38 at­tempts. At 44.7 per­cent, they shot bet­ter from be­hind the arc than from in front of it.

Iowa 72, Ohio State 62

Luka Garza scored 16 points and Tyler Cook tal­lied 15 with eight re­bounds as the host Hawkeyes (14-3, 3-3 Big Ten) dealt the No. 16 Buck­eyes (12-4, 2-3) their third con­sec­u­tive loss.

Min­nesota 88, Rut­gers 70

Amir Cof­fey had 29 points, Jor­dan Mur­phy 15 points and 14 re­bounds and Dupree McBrayer 15 points and 10 as­sists as the host Go­phers (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten) ripped the Scar­let Knights (8-7, 1-4).

Cal­i­for­nia Bap­tist 77, Chicago State 75

Ty Row­ell drained a wide-open three in the fi­nal sec­onds, and the Lancers (10-7, 1-2 WAC) edged the Cougars (3-14, 0-2), earn­ing the school’s first Di­vi­sion-I road win.

Duke 80, Florida State 78

Cam Red­dish hit a three-pointer with 0.8 sec­onds left to lift No. 1 Duke (14-1, 3-0 ACC) over host No. 13 Florida State (13-3, 1-2).
